There are dozens of Tom Petty songs I love way more than “American Girl,” but I’m posting it because it’s appropriate for this weekend. I mean, yeah, America, whatever—oh, and sure, every suburban girl has at some point fancied herself the subject of this song—but it’s also the soundtrack to every summertime bad decision I’ve made since I was 16.
